Dear Kinder-Whale Families, I hope you are having a fantastic start to your summer break! As promised, here is the very last post of the weekly news for the school year! I apologize for the delay in posting the news -- I have been busy moving all of my furniture and belongings out of my soon-to-be old classroom and into my new classroom for next year! Please come visit me in Room 19! Featured above in this week's news are pictures of the Kinder-Whales with their memory books on our last day of Kindergarten! We certainly had a lot of mixed emotions on our last day, but we tried to keep it as joyful and fun as possible! Check out some of their silly faces pictured above! On the last day of school, the Kinder-Whales shared our favorite activities, lessons, and memories as we reflected on our Kindergarten school year together. I was extremely impressed with how much the students remember from the activities that we've completed throughout the school year. It was very heartwarming and amazing to learn what really sticks with the children. I strongly encourage all students to READ A LOT this summer, in order to prepare themselves for first grade and beyond! Reading is so important, as it helps students with fluency, comprehension, vocabulary development, processing, and more knowledge of the world around them! I challenge the soon-to-be first graders to read every day for at least 10-15 minutes and to read as many books as they can over the summer! Without a doubt, our Kinder-Whales are definitely lifelong learners and are ready to move on to first grade! I know they will do amazing things in life to make a difference in the world! Fun in the Sun - Field Day On Tuesday, May 31st, the students had so much fun with our "Fun in the Sun" field day! The Kinder-Whales were divided into six different groups, made up of students from all six Kindergarten classes. Then, the students went from one teacher to the next, as if they were rotating in stations, except on a larger scale in different classrooms! They had so much fun being in a group of students that they don't normally get to see, except at recess time. It was also a great way of preparing them for next year when they are in first grade -- all the classes will be mixed up and they will have the wonderful opportunity to make new friends! Six Stations: The Kinder-Whales were excited about being able to be with different teachers and being able to participate in all six stations! In Mrs. Singleton's classroom (room 1), the students worked with marbles, toy cars, and trucks in activities that taught them about pushes and pulls. In Mrs. Adidjaja's classroom (room 2), the students enjoyed singing and dancing along to Go Noodle. At Ms. Vanessa Espitia's station, the students played noodle badminton, where they were given pool noodles to try and hit inflated beach balls! At Mr. Noel's station, the students played with a huge parachute and tried to run under it. In Ms. Lyna's station (room 6), the students did a fun activity involving shaving cream! In my classroom, the students worked in teams of 4-5 and were challenged to build the tallest structure out of 100 cups! Check out their 100 cups structures below! They all did an amazing job collaborating and working together! Collaboration in Action! No matter how many times the cups fell, the students never gave up! They went right back to building and rebuilding, all the while, having fun and working together! Mr. Noel's station... Unfortunately, I was only able to get pictures of my station and Mr. Noel's station, because his activity was right outside our classroom. Popsicles! At the end of the day, the students cooled down with some refreshing popsicles! They also enjoyed getting to sit with the other Kindergarten classes, all mixed up! We had a blast! | TK/Kindergarten Picnic! Thank you so much to all of the families who came out to support and join in on the end of the year picnic/BBQ/festivities! It was such a treat for the students to be able to spend their last day of school with their loved ones! Picnic Festivities! The Kinder-Whales enjoyed getting their face painted, playing with bubbles and bubble wands, playing noodle badminton, playing with parachutes, throwing a huge frisbee around, digging for "jewels" in the sand, making sand castles, eating hot dogs with their friends, and playing on the playground. Check out the awesome face paint and the amazing sand castles built by our dear Kinder-Whales! Sand Castles and Sand Buckets! The students had so much fun digging for jewels and using all of the buckets and shovels--thank you to all of the parents and families who donated sand buckets--they had so many wonderful options to choose from! Memory Books & Last Day Selfies! On the last day of school, each student took home a memory book to help them remember all of the projects and things that we have learned in Kindergarten. My hope is that the students will hold onto these books so that they can look back on all of our projects, and in the future, they can see how small they once were! As the students grow older and bigger, they can place their hands over their handprint art projects to see how much they've grown! I hope you enjoy looking through them as much as Mrs. Nancy and I enjoyed making them! See How Much I've Grown! Inside the memory books is a piece of blue yarn with a piece of tape that has your child's name on it. This piece of blue yarn was cut and measured during your child's first few days of Kindergarten in August! The yarn was used to measure your child's height on the first day, so that on their last day in Kindergarten, you can physically see how much they have grown... and they have grown so much! Shannon's memory book happened to be on the top, so we used her yarn as the example... she has grown about 3-4 inches this year in Kindergarten! We didn't have enough time to see how much every one else has grown. For this last weekly news post, please comment and share how much your child has grown! I would also love to see a picture of your child measuring themselves against the piece of yarn! Thank You! Thank you all so much for an awesome year filled with so many wonderful and sweet memories! I couldn't have asked for a better class to be my first class that I get to teach at Spangler School! Special thanks go to all of the wonderful parents!--I am so fortunate to have had such amazing and supportive parents and families! Without you, I don't know what I would have done or how we would have been able to do all of the things that we were able to accomplish--thank you all from the bottom of my heart! In looking back over the school year and the many things we have learned, the many adventures we have had, the many smiles and laughs we have shared, the many moments that I will always cherish and remember, the journey we have gone on together, and the story that we have written together as Kinder-Whales, I feel so incredibly blessed to have been your child's Kindergaten teacher. Even though I am considered the teacher, I feel like I am the one who has learned the most--each and every one of the students have taught me so much about myself and the kind of teacher and person I want to be. Please keep in touch and share special moments, celebrations, and milestones along the way! I know it would bring me great joy to hear all about each and every one of the students and what they are up to! Have a safe, relaxing, enjoyable, and fantastic summer! With Love and Gratitude, Mrs. Lorenzana |
