Dear Kindergarten Families,
Welcome to Spangler! My name is Mrs. Lorenzana and I will be your child's Kindergarten teacher this year! As your new teacher, my hope is that we will learn many new things, become better readers, and excellent mathematicians while having fun all at the same time! We will be discussing our hopes, dreams, goals, and expectations on the first day of school! If you would like to learn more about me, please click on the ABOUT ME tab above. Thank you and WELCOME!
COMMUNICATION:
As a firm believer that education is the key to success, my goal is to work closely with the Spangler Community to help each and every one of you succeed! Communication is vital in creating a successful educational experience, and I am looking forward to establishing a strong relationship and partnership with parents and families in order to make Kindergarten a successful and memorable year! To keep in touch, we will be utilizing the following forms of communication throughout the year:
PARENT VOLUNTEERS:
Parents are a child's first teacher and are key to the success of our kindergarten program. I welcome all parents into the classroom, but drop-ins are not encouraged as it may be disruptive to the learning process. If you would like to volunteer your time in the classroom, please schedule a date and time with me. Please complete and submit a Parent Volunteer Form, see your doctor for a TB test, and turn in a copy of your driver's license to our secretary, Mrs. Lena. The process can take up to two weeks for the district to process your application. All parents that would like to participate in our class activities and/or field trips MUST have the volunteer paperwork fully approved prior to joining in on the fun! Parent volunteers are much appreciated! We can discuss how you would like to contribute your time in the classroom. Your involvement both in and outside of school is valuable to support your child’s education. I look forward to working with you!
CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR PLAN:
It is my expectation that students come to school ready to learn. There is a time to be silly and a time to be serious, and we will work together to help the students understand and be able to tell the difference.
SUGGESTED ITEMS TO BRING:
The following are recommended supplies for your child to bring to class. Some of the items may be collected and distributed throughout the school year to all students in the class.
Please label the following items with your child’s name:
WISH LIST/CLASS DONATIONS:
Class donations are much appreciated and will be a tremendous help to our learning! Thank you for your support, consideration, and generosity!

BIRTHDAYS:
Birthdays are a special time for both young children and parents. Children’s birthdays are celebrated. We have special activities to make your child’s day special. Please DO NOT send cupcakes to school on your child’s birthday.
THANK YOU!
Thank you for taking the time to read the contents of this welcome letter. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Through mutual respect, hard work, determination, a dynamic learning environment, creativity, kindness, and an appreciation for learning, together, we will grow in so many ways by living, loving, laughing, and making lasting memories. I am so delighted to be your child's Kindergarten teacher, and once again, WELCOME TO THE KINDER-WHALES FAMILY!

Communication is vital in creating a successful educational experience, and I am looking forward to establishing a strong relationship and partnership with parents and families in order to make Kindergarten a successful and memorable year! To keep in touch, we will be utilizing the following forms of communication throughout the year:
- Class website: kinder-whales.weebly.com -- I will be constantly updating this website with upcoming events, school news, classroom activities, and announcements, so please check this site often!
- Email: [email protected]; Once my last name changes, my email may change as well. I will be sure to notify all of you of the change via email. I will check my email at least twice a day, first thing in the morning, and once in the evening. Email is my preferred form of communication for making appointments to discuss any concerns that may arise. You may also visit the ABOUT ME tab and fill out a request to make an appointment, and I'll get back to you within the next 48 hours.
- Class Newsletter -- In lieu of sending home a monthly or weekly newsletter, I will be updating important information on this website under the tab called, Weekly News 2015-2016. Please check this page often to stay up to date!
- Weekly Homework Folders -- Any field trip forms, important announcements, or forms that require immediate attention will be sent home with students in their weekly homework folders, and may require parent signatures. Please return forms that are sent home with your child as soon as possible. More information about homework folders can be found on the Homework page.
PARENT VOLUNTEERS:
Parents are a child's first teacher and are key to the success of our kindergarten program. I welcome all parents into the classroom, but drop-ins are not encouraged as it may be disruptive to the learning process. CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR PLAN:
It is my expectation that students come to school ready to learn. There is a time to be silly and a time to be serious, and we will work together to help the students understand and be able to tell the difference.
- Behavior Clip Chart -- We will be using a Behavior Clip Chart that is color coded. Each student will start on green, Ready to Learn. Throughout each school day, students can move up the chart if they are especially focused, making good decisions, helping out their friends, etc., or students can move down if they are not focused on their work, disrupting others, speaking out of turn, or not following the rules. However, if a student is clipped down, they always have the opportunity to move back up the clip chart by improving their behavior and making better choices. Each day, your child will bring home a color coded slip of paper to keep you informed of their behavior. I encourage you to ask them for their color day so that your child is able to take responsibility for their own behavior while at school.
- Table Points -- Students will sit in tables of four or five. Whenever all students at a table are especially on task or displaying great behavior, that table will earn a star for their group. The first table that reaches 10 stars will be able to choose a prize from my treasure box. Once a table reaches 10 stars, the points system will begin all over again. My hope is to encourage students to work together as a team and to remind one another of good behavior.
- Free Choice Time: At the end of every day, students will have about 30 minutes of Free Choice time. Students who complete all of their class work in a timely manner and turn in all of their homework on time every week will be able to choose a fun activity (i.e. arts and crafts, reading for fun, playing educational board games, math card games, etc.). Students who have missing or incomplete assignments will spend that time finishing up their work before they can participate in Free Choice activities.
